​Last Sunday saw the annual finals day featuring The Chairman's Cup and the League Cup. Both games were very tight and well-contested with Denham United and AFC Portchester taking the respective trophies. Match blogs from BotP and Wandering Tractor are featured below.
League action saw both Reading and Southampton clock up big scores in the Premier League. With the North title already decided, focus is turning to the bottom with a massive game coming up next weekend. In the South both Havant and Andover won to keep Farnham's champagne on ice. That could be decided this weekend, when Farnham take on The Hawks.

SDFA Quarter-Final
AFC Varsity 0-0 (p1-4) Southampton
A creditable goalless draw after 90 minutes for Varsity, against a team from the division above them. However, The Sirens came out on top in the penalty shootout, winning 4-1 with Lucy Mear, Manisha Kaur, Eliska Lynn and Katelyn Wort all on target

Dorset Cup Final
Wimborne Town 1-3 Sherborne Town
A first-half double from Erin Bloomfield put the Zebras in charge at half-time. Wimborne did pull a goal back after 79 minutes, but a late own goal sealed the trophy for Sherborne.

​Reading 8-0 Fleet Town
The Royals took an early lead through Keren Banduka's fifth minute strike. However, it was the 39th minute before Tia Johnson made it two. Johnson then made it 3-0 in first half added time. Three minutes after the restart, Johnson completed her hat-trick, Mia Parker then made it 5-0 before Nat Cowell got in  on the act with a 17-minute hat-trick. Southampton 5-0 Badshot Lea
An Olivia Glover goal midway through the first-half gave The Sirens a 1-0 lead at he break. However, Southampton had increased that lead to four by the hour mark. Lucy Mear, an own goal, and Chloe Ball putting the game beyond The Baggies. A first goal for Daisy Saunders rounded off the scoring in the 69th minute.

​Abingdon United Development 2-0 Tilehurst Panthers
The yellows overtook last season's points total and climbed into third spot with a 2-0 defeat of Tilehurst at The Northcourt. Chloe Forrester scored both goals to take her season tally into double figures.

Kidlington Youth 0-3 Farnborough
Games are rapidly running out for Kidlington as they battle to avoid the drop. This result leaves them still five points adrift of Ascot with both teams having played sixteen. With the teams meeting on May 3rd, and both still having to face champions Denham, the clash between the sides on May 3rd could well be a relegation shootout. Farnborough's goals came through Laura Quinn-Low, Eliza Andrews and an OG.

Penn & Tylers Green P-P Larkspur Rovers

​Andover New Street 2-0 AFC Varsity
Goals from Rebecca Screech and Violet Alen kept Andover in touch with Havant & Waterlooville in the race for what's most likely to be second spot. That's four wins on the bounce and nine without defeat for New Street. Varsity have now completed their league campaign and currently sit ninth, a point above Bursledon who have four left to play.

Bemerton Heath Harlequins 0-4 Havant & Waterlooville
The Hawks moved to within two points of Farnham to keep some pressure on the league leaders and keep their very feint title hopes alive. Captain Emma-Jane May led the way with a brace. Tia Hooper and Ava-Rose Leather both scored their first goals of the season.

Bournemouth Sports Reserves 3-0 Wimborne Town
Bournemouth moved to 31 points with this win, almost three times their points haul from last season. Two first-half groups from Emma Whall set Sports on their way. Just past the hour Charlotte Kerr added a third to put the game beyond Wimborne's reach.

Farnham Town P-P Bursledon

​Denham United 2-1 Oxford City
A game that started with a yellow card for Denham's keeper and a penalty to Denham, both within the first three minutes. Brogan Moore slotted home the spot-kick and a second goal from Niamh Cashin, in first half added time, gave the Division One North Champions a two goal half-time lead. Ellie White reduced the deficit early in the second half, but Denham managed the remainder of the game to take the trophy. Read the match blog here (Double Denham).

​Wycombe Wanderers 0-0 (p1-3) AFC Portchester
Two familiar foes pretty much cancelled each other out on a difficult surface at Scours Lane. Chances at both ends were kept to a minimum despite the attacking prowess possessed by both teams. Portchester keeper Shannon Betteridge saved two Wycombe penalties in the shootout that The Arancione won 3-1. ​Denham United 13-2 Ascot United Reserves
Denham's hunger showed no signs of abating on Tuesday evening as they put a young Ascot side to the sword under the lights at The Racecourse Ground. There were hat-tricks for both Brogan Moore and Annie Hewitt. Chelsea-Rose Keary and Sofia Harris helped themselves to two each whilst Niamh Cashin, Rebecca Horwood and Daisy Baranowski were also on the score sheet.

​AFC Portchester 1-1 (p4-3) Maidenhead United
Another penalty shootout win for Portchy, following on from Sunday's League Cup Final victory. Up against a Maidenhead side from the division above them, Portchester took the lead through Kim Fuller. However, Izzy Stockton levelled the scores to set up a penalty shootout that Portchester edged 4-3.

​Reading v Oxford City
A win would see The Royals leapfrog Southampton into third with a game in hand on The Sirens. City are safely placed in mid-table, but will want to get back to winning ways after Sunday's Chairman's Cup Final defeat. They still have four league games to play and a county cup final date with Kidlington to look forward to. Reading won the reverse fixture 4-1 with two goals each from Tia Johnson and Tyra Wilson.

​Fleet Town v Sholing
Nothing more than personal pride to play for in this game. Fleet sit one place above Sholing, but have five additional points than Sunday's visitors. The reverse fixture saw Fleet take three points home following a 3-2 win.

Winchester City Flyers v AFC Portchester
A game that could decide the Premier League title. If the game ends in a draw then Wycombe will be champions. If Winchester win it, then they  will need to win their last game, at Fleet, to take the title. If Portchester win, then they too can still go on to take the title by winning their remaining four games. The reverse fixture, on the opening day, ended 3-2 in favour of Portchester.

Woodley United v Oxford City
United still require another point to make mathematically certain of their place in the Premier League next season. They did win 2-1 at Marsh Lane back in February, which was their first three-pointer of the season.

​Ascot United Reserves v Kidlington Youth
Ascot's defeat to Denham on Tuesday night leaves them five points above Kidlington, but the Greens have a game in hand. So, this is pretty much a must-win situation for Kidlington. The reverse fixture was a thoroughly entertaining 4-4 draw at Yarnton Road with Ascot coming from two goals down twice before levelling in the fifth minute of added time (Bottom Two Battle It Out).

Oxford City Development v Penn & Tylers Green
Penn only have second place to play for now and are in pole position to take the runners-up spot. However, City are not mathematically out of the relegation battle. They'll desperately want to pick up something from this, their final game of the season. Penn won the reverse fixture 6-2 just two weeks ago, after coming back from 2-1 down at half-time.

Tilehurst Panthers v Farnborough
Both teams still have four games to play this season including facing each other twice. They are both safe from the drop, but can't affect the top of the table, although Farnborough may well have their eyes set on a top three finish. There's currently seven points between the teams

New Street are not yet mathematically out of the title race. However, they are probably looking at the runners-up spot as a more realistic option.

A win for Farnham would confirm the title. A draw would also probably suffice unless Andover manage to turn round a 38 goal difference deficit inside two games. Town won the opening day reverse fixture 4-0.

Shaftesbury v Bursledon
The current bottom two going head to head. For Shaftesbury, their fate has been sealed for a while, and even a win here would not lift them off the foot of the table. However, a point takes The Dons above AFC Varsity and a win would put them just a point behind 8th placed Bemerton Heath Harlequins, with three more games to play. Bursledon won the reverse league fixture 4-0.

No, this is not a questionable style choice popular among German football fans, but rather a celebration of Denham United's victory in the Chairman's Cup, which they added to their already secured Division One North league title.

Sunday at Scours Lane featured a double header. The Chairman's Cup Final kicked off at 11am, followed by the League Cup Final at 3pm. I had the pleasure of covering the first match between Denham United and Oxford City. The second match, between AFC Portchester and Wycombe Wanderers, was to be reported by Dave Reed (Wandering Tractor).

Although they played in different divisions this season—something that would change next term after Denham's promotion—the Chairman's Cup finalists had already met this season in a thrilling FA Cup match at Marsh Lane that went to penalties. Denham had Chelsea-Rose Keary sent off before Oxford came back from 3-1 down, with Grace Craven scoring a 95th-minute equaliser to send the game to a shootout. Oxford edged it 5-3 but knew today's final would be tough.

​Some games start slowly and take a while to build up to speed. Not this one. Inside the first minute Oxford looked to attack down their left only for Denham keeper Zara Butt to coming racing out her box to win a 50/50 with Ellie Walecki, before blocking the loose ball with her hand. Freekick to Oxford on the edge and a yellow card for the United goalie. The blue wall blocked the free kick and, almost immediately afterwards, attention switched to the opposite end, as Denham launched an attack. This culminated in an attempt at goal being handled on the line. Penalty to Denham, and we still hadn't got 3 minutes on the clock.
Brogan Moore (not Kayleigh Currivan, as I had mistakenly posted. Must get my eyes checked), calmly slotted home the spot-kick. 1-0
Grace Craven, wearing the captain's armband for City today, then went close with a volley after battling for the ball in the ball inside the Denham box. Two defenders then exchanged goal attempts. Amna Butt saw her header flash wide of Maskell's upright whilst, at the other end, Hermione Prescott-Luke's acrobatic effort posed little trouble for Zara Butt.
The Denham goalkeeper was then called into action again on the quarter-hour when Billie Bough-French's stinging freekick was well dealt with by Butt. That save signalled something of a lull in goalmouth action as both teams took a bit of a breather on an increasingly warm morning.
On the half-hour mark Bough-French pushing up from the back, sent over a very dangerous looking ball across the face of the Denham goal, but it was slightly too far ahead of City players coming in on the back post. 
It seems that Denham were going to go into the break with a single goal lead. However, that got better for them a minute into added time when Daisy Baranowski got clear on the left before delivering a low cross. Niamh Cashin timed her run perfectly to get in front of her marker and apply deft finish past Maskell. 2-0

HT Denham United 2 Oxford City 0. After a blistering start, the game was largely played in midfield on a dry and uneven pitch that was causing plenty of problems for both teams. Despite that fact that Denham had managed two goals, both defences were being marshalled very well. Billie Bough-French for City and Denham's Annie Hewitt, in particular, were having very solid games.

​Kicking towards the car park end in the second half, Denham were first to show when Cashin was inches from getting a decisive touch to a corner inside the first five minutes. However, a couple of minutes later their defence, for the first time, allowed Ellie White some room which she took in some style, sending a glorious lob over Butt from well outside the box. 2-1 and game on.
It was time for Denham to dig in now. Oxford were clearly going to throw everything at them. Denham's back four looked solid and with Niamh Cashin, who appeared to be everywhere in the second half, dropping into more of a CDM role when they were out of possession, they continued to restrict opportunities for the Hoops.
Despite City’s efforts to equalise, Denham created the better opportunities and probably should have extended their lead. Special praise goes to City goalkeeper Kiera Maskell, who showed great bravery throughout the match. After receiving treatment in the first half, she was later hit on the head diving at Cashin’s feet. About 20 minutes from time, Maskell made a crucial save from a Liana Horwood cross, forcing Cashin’s shot wide but taking another knock. With no substitute goalkeeper available, this could have been a serious issue for City, but Maskell recovered and continued.
In added time, Denham had a golden chance to seal the win, but Brogan Moore, usually clinical, shot over from six yards, possibly affected by a bad bounce. Deep into injury time, Denham’s keeper Zara Butt was forced to scramble and hold onto the ball as Grace Craven closed in, recalling memories of the last equaliser in the FA Cup. However, the referee soon blew the final whistle, confirming Denham’s League and Chairman’s Cup double.​

FT Denham United 2 Oxford City 1. Massive congratulations to Denham United who collected both of their trophies at the end of the game. An excellent season that is not over yet. They still have an opportunity to complete a 100% record in the league with three games remaining. That run starts this Tuesday evening when the face Ascot United Reserves at The Den.
Commiserations to Oxford City who battled away against a strong Denham side and a pitch that was a million miles away from their home 3G pitch at Marsh Lane. For the second season running they fell at the final hurdle to teams from the division below them. However, they still have the opportunity of silverware when they take on Kidlington Youth in the Oxfordshire County Cup Final. A repeat of last season's final that Oxford won 4-0.
Thanks to the Southern Region League for inviting me to pick player of the match for the final. It was quite a responsibility and a tough decision. In the first half I thought that the two key players were centre-halves. Billie Bough-French for Oxford and Annie Hewitt for Denham. There's no denying the energy and incessant work put in by Oxford's Grace Craven, who was still running flat out in the last minute. However, my choice in the end went to Niamh Cashin who appeared to be omnipresent in the second half, getting on the end of crosses one second and propping up the defence the next.

Denham United got the job done in midweek, beating Penn & Tylers Green, to take the Division One North title. Both Wycombe Wanderers, in the Premier, and Farnham Town, in the South, had the opportunity to do exactly the same on Sunday. Both lost, Wycombe at Portchester and Farnham at Bournemouth Sports Reserves, leaving the door ajar for Portchester and Winchester in the Premier. In the South, it's still in Farnham's hands, but both Andover and Havant won to keep them honest. There was a pivotal moment at the bottom of the North Division too. Kidlington were beaten at Abingdon whilst relegation rivals, Ascot, won 1-0 at home to Farnborough.

AFC Varsity 7-2 Bursledon

Combined Counties Cup Quarter-Final
AFC Portchester 2-0 Eastbourne Borough
Goals from Lola Meyer and Becky Bath saw Portchester through to the Combined Counties Cup semi-final where they'll take on Maidenhead United, who saw off Reading in their quarter-final.

Penn & Tylers Green 1-6 Denham United
Daisy Baranowski and Niamh Cashin had the league leaders 2-0 up early on, but Penn struck back through Tara Woodward. However, an Annie Hewitt goal restored Denham's two goal advantage, and it got better for them when Brogan Moore added number four before half-time. Captain Kayleigh Currivan then got her first of the season to make it five and the scoring was wrapped up by Liana Horwood. Read the BotP match blog (Ruthless, Relentless, Clinical).

​AFC Portchester 3-0 Wycombe Wanderers
Wanderers needed a victory to secure the premier League title. However, goals from Laurie Potvin, Layla Morgan and Kim Fuller saw Portchester clock up a double over the Chairgirls. Wycombe are still favourites to win the league but both Portchester or Winchester can still overhaul them should they win all their games in hand. Wycombe have now completed their campaign and just have to wait it out. Read the match report on the Portchester web site and check out the match photos from Andy Wicks.

Badshot Lea 0-6 Oxford City
City scored six for the second consecutive away game, condemning Badshot Lea to their ninth home league defeat. Ellie White scored two, Reese Ayres, Grace Craven, Emily Harris and Katherine Parsons were also on target for the visitors. The Baggies remain three points adrift at the bottom with two games remaining, one of which is at home to second bottom Woodley United.

Fleet Town 3-2 Beaconsfield Town
After Fleet took a two goal lead through Lily Martin, a Rebecca Tinnelly screamer pulled one back for The Rams in the 30th minute. Fleet then regained their two goal advantage through Imogen Cockerell, before Lexie Sanmarco set up a tense ending with a goal in the 85th minute.

Reading 5-0 Woodley United
Local bragging rights went to Reading thanks largely to a 22-minute hat-trick from Tia Johnson, who opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Johnson added her second on 24 minutes, swiftly followed by Keren Banduka making it three. Johnson then completed her hat-trick in the 34th minute to send the Royals in four up at the break. Immediately after the restart, Mia Parker made it 5-0.

Sholing 2-6 Winchester City Flyers
Emily McDonough fired Winchester in front after just 6 minutes. The lead was doubled after 32 minutes by Chelsie Hay . However, an OG put Sholing back in the running before the break. Shortly after the restart Laura Vokes made it 3-1, only for Danielle O'Leary to get one back for The Boatwomen. Two quickfire goals from Charlie Snelling and Annie Northwood put Flyers in control. ​Abingdon United Development 3-0 Kidlington Youth
Kidlington. missing first choice keeper Emily Murphy, had defender Cloe Woodward between the sticks. They battled hard and held their own until first-half added time when Chloe Forrester scored from the spot. Ellie Owen doubled the lead seconds after the restart and Charlotte Bigmore made the points safe for United. Read the BotP match blog

Ascot United Reserves 1-0 Farnborough
A massive three points for Ascot in their fight for survival. Combined with Kidlington's defeat at Abingdon, United now have a five point gap back to The Greens. With the crunch game against Kidlington coming up in 2 weeks, Ascot now have their fate in their own hands thanks to Nicole Miller's 75th minute strike.

Penn & Tylers Green 6-2 Oxford City Development
Two goals from Megan Fillary saw City lead 2-1 at the break. However, Penn put aside Thursday's disappointment to storm back in the second half. Both Megan Brockwell and top scorer Tara Woodward helped themselves to two goals, Annalise Scott-Green and Rebecca Stopforth added the other two.

Tilehurst Panthers P-P Larkspur Rovers

​AFC Varsity 1-2 Guernsey
Goals from Donna Gallienne and Heidi Dawber secured a winning end to Guernsey's inaugural South Region season, all-but guaranteeing a seventh place finish. Varsity were already safe from the drop but will want something from their final game at Andover in an effort to avoid finishing second from bottom.

Andover New Street 3-1 AFC Stoneham
Andover made it eight without defeat as they gained revenge for their 3-0 defeat at Stoneham Lane earlier in the season. Two more goals for top scorer Freya Twigg and a penalty from captain Keira Smith, gave New Street a three goal lead by half-time. Stoneham did pull a goal back, but the points were already sealed.

Bournemouth Sports Reserves 2-0 Farnham Town
It just wasn't destined to be Farnham's day on the south coast. Goalkeeper Mya Francis-Pownall was injured in the warm-up and, with no keeper on the bench, manager Anya Kinnane took over between the sticks. It was still 0-0 at the break but when Farnham went down to 10, Sports took full advantage, scoring twice through Freya Loren in the 76th and 87th minutes.

Bursledon 1-2 Havant & Waterlooville
Goals from Phoebe Fitzgerald and captain Emma-Jane May secured the points for Havant. Combined with Farnham's defeat at Bournemouth, this result means that The Hawks still have the slimmest chance of winning the league but are reliant on Farnham completely collapsing in their final five outings.

AFC Varsity v Southampton
A tough test for Varsity as they take on Premier League side Southampton. Neither side has anything left to p[lay for in terms of the league, so both can be completely focused on this game. Varsity got to this stage with a resounding 7-2 victory over Bursledon two weeks ago.

Dorset FA Cup Final
Wimborne Town v Sherborne Town
The Magpies take on The Zebras in a Dorset County Cup Final. Sherborne are currently second in the South West Regional Premier League, so a step higher than Wimborne. They won 2-0 at Wimborne's league-mates, Shaftesbury, in the semi-final after already putting out Dorchester. Wimborne were gifted a first round pass by Sherborne's reserve team before disposing of Poole town on penalties in the semi-final.

Reading v Fleet Town
​Only league places and personal pride to play for in this one. Reading could still make a dent in the top three, Fleet could secure a top half finish. This will be their first meeting of the season, with the reverse fixture scheduled on the final weekend. Reading have only suffered one defeat in their last six outings.

Southampton v Badshot Lea
The Sirens will be looking to secure third spot against a Baggies side who need a minimum of four points from their remaining two games to have any chance of staying up. Southampton ran out 7-0 winners at The Operatic Community Ground back in November and were already four ahead when Badshot Lea had Ellie James sent off.

​Abingdon United Development v Tilehurst Panthers
United will be looking for a strong finish to the season and a possible third place. Panthers, with five left to play, have an opportunity to climb the table and secure a top half position. This is the reverse fixture to the opening day of the season. Abingdon won that one 7-0. Since that game, Panthers striker Leah Why has an extraordinary record, scoring in all but one of the game sin which Tilehurst have score.

Kidlington Youth v Farnborough
The Greens fought hard but lost at Abingdon on Sunday, leaving them five points from safety. They have three games left, including the 6-pointer at Ascot, in which to save their place in the division. Farnborough will be looking for a strong finish and could still make a top three position. This will be the first meeting of the teams this season.

Penn & Tylers Green P-P Larkspur Rovers

​Andover New Street v AFC Varsity
With three games to play New Street are still mathematically in the title race. However, they would need Farnham to lose all five of their remaining games. Nevertheless, it's been a superb run-in from Andover, who are unbeaten in the league since the shock 2-1 reversal at Shaftesbury in early January. Varsity are safe from the drop, but will want to avenge the 3-1 defeat suffered in the reverse fixture last month.

Bemerton Heath Harlequins v Havant & Waterlooville
The Hawks are in the same position as Andover. They can catch Farnham should Town lose every game. Second spot is looking much more likely however, and victory at Bemerton would go a long way to securing this position. This will be the last game for Harlequins, who are safely position in 8th and can't gain a place, even with victory. Havant won the reverse game 4-1.

Bournemouth Sports Reserves v Wimborne Town
These two are locked together on 28 points but Sports have played one game fewer. Sports became the second team to beat Farnham last weekend and will be on a high going into this game, looking to get some Dorset pride back after losing the reverse fixture 3-1 in November.

Farnham Town v Bursledon
After two defeats in three games, Farnham are still massive favourites to take the title. A point will probably be sufficient, but three would make it 100% certain. The Dons still have four to play and, although safe from the drop, they'll want to add a few more points to get a little further up the table. This will be the first meeting of the teams this season.

​Denham United v Oxford City
The first final of a double-header at Scours Lane. City, for the second consecutive season, take on a Division One North side in the Chairman's Cup Final. Last season they came undone, losing to a determined Abingdon United Development team. They'll need to be at their best this season as they face newly-promoted Denham United, who are full of confidence and most likely very keen to see how they fare against a side they will share a division with next season.

Wycombe Wanderers v AFC Portchester
Portchy seem to have the edge on Wycombe this season, completing the double over Wanderers last weekend and, in doing so, putting the Chairgirls' champagne on ice for at least another week. With no more league games to play, Wycombe can be fully focused  on this one. They went out of this competition at the quarter-final stage last season, losing 3-1 to Portchester.

This Sunday was one of those days where I really needed to clone myself. There were too many games that I would have liked to have been at. In the end my mind was made up not by the football, but by my dog keeping me awake half the night. Instead of making the long drive south for either Bournemouth v Farnham or Portchester v Wycombe, I decided to make the much shorter trip to The Northcourt to see how Kidlington Youth fared in their battle to avoid relegation away at Abingdon  United Development.
The situation at the bottom of Division One North before the start of play was that Kidlington sat bottom, two points adrift of Ascot United Reserves, but with a game in hand. The teams are scheduled to meet in a couple of weeks. Kidlington, who were yet to register a point on their travels, lost the reverse fixture with Abingdon by two goals to one. At the time United were to of the league, but Kidlington made them work hard for the points. Courtney Sumner had The Greens in front before Beth Hawtin and Jessica Excell took the points.
To make matters worse for Kidlington, they came into the is game without the services of influential first-choice goalkeeper, Emily Murphy. Defender Cloe Woodward was donning the gloves for the day.

​The visitors started the game brightly and had an early opportunity to open the scoring when Courtney Sumner's excellent 4th minute through all found Amy Busby in behind the Abingdon defence. However, the Greens striker couldn't keep her shot down and didn't trouble Maisie Moore.
Stand-in Kidlington goalkeeper, Cloe Woodward, was called into action in the 10th minute when the lively Chloe Forrester tested her out. A minute later, in an end-to-end start, Courtney Sumner let fly from outside the box, again not troubling Moore. That was countered by Beth Hawtin's low drive whistling inches past Woodward's right-hand upright.
Just past the quarter-hour, Forrester's pace took her in behind the defence again, latching onto an inch-perfect ball. She tried to take the ball around Woodward, but the keeper did enough, staying on her feet and forcing Forrester to screw the shot wide. Neither side had yet managed to establish dominance, but the clear-cut chances did dry up for a while, maybe as both sides took a little breather.
With almost half an hour on the clock, Sumner once more tested Moore, letting fly with a dipping 25-yard volley that bounced just in front of the keeper, who did well to adjust and smother the ball. A few minutes later, Charlotte Bigmore was allowed a clear sight of goal, but could only fire straight into the body of Woodward. That was followed, on 39 minutes, by Kidlington's best chance of the half. Julia Rushmere was sent clear on the right, driving towards goal she got off a low drive that was destined for the far corner before Maisie Moore pulled off an excellent save to keep the scores level.
Into added time and Kidlington, already without their first choice keeper, had a few worrying moments as Woodward went down and required treatment before being able to continue. Seven minutes into added time, with Kidlington int he Abingdon half, the home side sprung a rapid counter-attack. Once again, the pace up front caused problems for Kidlington and, when Forrester went to pull the ball back, she had her legs taken from under her. Penalty! No mistake from Chloe Forrester from the spot. 1-0

HT Abingdon United Development 1 Kidlington Youth 0. The late penalty was somewhat harsh on Kidlington, who had held their own up to that point. They always looked a little vulnerable to the pace that Abingdon have up front, but also posed a few threats of their own.

​Conceding so late in the first half was a kick in the teeth for Kidlington, but worse was to come. Barely seconds after the restart, Chloe Forrester went on another run up the left, drifting pact a couple of challenges before striking a shot off the inside of Woodward's right-hand post. The ball flew back across the goal where Ellie Owen was lurking to smash it hole. 2-0. A double blow for Kidlington. Having stayed on level terms until added time in the first half,. they suddenly find themselves two down less than a minute into the second.
Having said that, Kidlington came out fighting, led by stalwart Courtney Sumner. Her superb effort, from way outside the area, came very close to finding the top corner. Kidlington were convinced that Moore had got a fingertip to it, but the referee was having none of it. If the keeper did touch it, it was a fabulous save. A minute later, Julia Rushmere also tried her luck, as the Greens desperately tried to respond.
Just before the hour, Kidlington were almost caught out when Beth Hawtin got her head to a right-wing corner, sending the ball just wide of the far post. Rushmere then saw her shot, through a sea of legs, well held by Moore before, in the 67th minute, the home side sealed the points. Charlotte Bigmore won the ball in midfield before driving into the right-hand side of the box and hammering a strike in at the near post. 3-0
The Greens continued to look for a reply. Busby sent an effort flashing across the face of goal and a corner from the left came back off the inside of the far post but somehow stayed out before being hacked off the line.
Abingdon almost had the last say when Hawtin played an exquisite ball through the Kidlington defence for Sasha Scott to run in on. However, substitute Elyse Thomas-Collaire did brilliantly to get back to thwart the winger.

FT Abingdon United Development 3 Kidlington Youth 0. A tough one for Kidlington, but the quickfire double either side of half-time was just too much for them to recover from. Abingdon's youthful pace caused Kidlington problems throughout, but they had chances themselves too. The defeat was made doubly troubling by the fact that relegation rivals Ascot United Reserves, beat Farnborough 1-0 to move five points clear. Abingdon, meanwhile, are still in with a shout of second spot and could yet do Kidlington a favour when they take on Ascot in the final game.
Next up for Abingdon is the visit of Tilehurst Panthers next Sunday. Kidlington take on Farnborough at Yarnton Road, in a must win game ahead of the six-pointer at The Racecourse Ground the following Sunday.

This Thursday I made the short trip down the M40 to French School Meadow, home of Penn & Tylers Green FC, for a massive Southern Region Division One North clash between Penn and champions-elect Denham United. The visitors, playing their 17th league game of the season, were still protecting a 100% record and, what's more, avoiding defeat on the night would confirm them as league champions. Penn, in fact, were the only team that were still capable of catching them.
The reverse fixture at The Den had been a tight affair in which Penn came from behind twice before eventually succumbing to Liana Horwood penalty. Penn were coming into the game in pretty good form too, with just one defeat in their last nine outings. They'd also put seven past Tilehurst last weekend, with the league's top scorer Tara Woodward adding five more to her very impressive tally.
Thanks to both coaching teams for letting get photos of the teams sheets before the game. Really good to have a chat with United's Andy Moore as well. Thank you for your kind comments about the blog and web sites. Much as I do this as a hobby, it's really good to hear that it is appreciated.

​The opening couple of minutes felt a little cagey, with both sides trying to get the measure of the other. However, five minutes in Niamh Cashin was played into the Penn box. She was forced wide to the left of goal and the home defence closed ranks quickly to block her out. Two minutes later Cashin turn provider, sending in a ball from the left that Brogan Moore met. Unfortunately for United, the strikers timing was slightly out and, although the ball looped over Amy Whale, it clipped the bar an went over for a goal-kick. Two warnings for Penn in quick succession. A minute later, the warnings took further shape. This time the threat came from the right, Rebecca Horwood sent over allow ball that evaded defenders and strikers before finding Daisy Baranowski on the left-hand edge of the box. The winder proceed to curl a delightful strike back across Whale into the far corner. 0-1
Penn's response to going behind was to launch an attack of their own, breaking quickly through Shannon Read up the left. With Zara Butt well out position, Read found Tara Woodward, who took the strike early but couldn't quite find the target. The action switched to the opposite end. Amy Whale's goal-kick was controlled well in midfield by Niamh Cashin, who burst forward, exchange passes with Brogan Moore and slipped her shot past Whale for 0-2. Clinical.
Punished twice in quick succession, Penn could have been phased, but they pushed back themselves and, just four minutes later, they pounced. It was a moment of indecision at the back from Denham that gave Tara Woodward the opportunity she wanted, nipping between goalkeeper and defender to slide the ball into the bottom corner. 1-2
Three goals already and we weren't even halfway through the first period, and the action kept coming. Just on the midway point a Denham corner from the left caused problems for Penn and when a Denham strike seemed to hit a Penn hand, there were big claims for a penalty, which referee Richard Blackwood waved away. 
The turned down appeal just spurred United on. Two minutes later, a back pass left a little short, put Amy Whale in trouble. Annie Hewitt was on it like a shot, dispossessing the keeper before swivelling to send the ball into the empty net. 1-3
Undeterred, Penn were straight back on the offensive . Woodward went clear down the right before sending over a cross was helped on to Shannon Read at the far post. The strike made herself a little space before sending a shot just over Butt's bar. Whale then had to pull out the stops at the other end, saving well from Horwood, before paly switched back again. Rachel Southby latched onto another loose ball inside the Denham half and, seeing the goal unguarded, tried to guide it home. However, Jo Torr was alive to the danger, getting back to hack the ball off the line.
Once again, a let-off at one end sparked a response at the other. Rebecca Horwood, out on the right, lofted a pass over the Penn defence for Brogan Moore to run onto, before slipping a low strike past the advancing Whale. 1-4

HT Penn & Tylers Green 1 Denham United 4. Phew! What a half of football. Despite the lopsided score, this was far from a one-sided game. Penn generated a fair few chances of their own. However, Denham's passing, movement and clinical finishing was just too much for them at times.

​It was unlikely that the second half would like up to the breathless action of the first, but it did start with another goal. Only five minutes had passed after the restart when Denham went close again, this time denied by a brilliant goal-line clearance from Holly Wyncoll. however, there was nothing the defender, or anyone else could do, when Kayleigh Currivan lashed the loose ball home from the edge of the box. 1-5 and cue big Denham celebrations for their captain, grabbing her first goal after missing half of the season through injury.
Once again, Penn tried to respond. Butt had to be strong to punch away a left-wing corner a few minutes later, before her defence managed to fully clear the danger. Amy Whale was then called into action again, diving full-length to push away Annie Hewitt's drive. Brogan Moore then had another effort flash just wide of Whale's right-hand post.
Aside from these opportunities, much of the second half was being played out in the midfield area. Penn were plugging away, trying to get a foothold back in the game, but with a four goal lead, Denham were seemingly content to hold them at bay. Megan Brockwell made sure that Zara Butt was still paying attention, letting rip from way out, but the keeper was well positioned to make a comfortable stop. Apart from that, the Denham defence was holding very firm. Tara Woodward, as ever, was buzzing around the back-line, but was being well marshalled by a strong Denham defence.
With five minutes remaining, Denham struck again. Cashin did really well down the left before setting up substitute Liana Horwood to volley in the sixth. 1-6. Two minutes later, it looked as if it had got worse for Penn when Cashin got in on the right, slotting home from a narrow angle. However, with the ball back on the centre spot and following consultation with the assistant, the referee signalled that a Denham player had got a slight touch on the ball before it crossed the line, from an offside position. Goal chalked off. Not that it really mattered at this point.
Soon afterwards the referee blew to end the game and signal wild celebrations from the newly crowned Division One North Champions.

FT Penn & Tylers Green 1 Denham United 6. Congratulations to Denham, who are champions with there games remaining and are still defending their 100% record. Thanks to Penn for contributing to a great game of football. On the night, they fell short because they came up against an exceptional team who were bang on form, especially in the first half. Penn are a very good team themselves and, with their games in hand, will almost certainly finish as runners-up for the third season on the bounce.
Penn are back in league action on Sunday as they welcome Oxford City Development to French School Meadow. Denham have a week off before they face Premier League Oxford City in the Chairman's Cup Final at Scours Lane on the 26th.
Finally, a shout out to referee Richard Blackwood who, in my opinion, handled the game brilliantly. I think it's fair to say that both Denham and Penn have players who are not shy about making their point to the referee should they be in disagreement. Blackwood calmly explained his decisions at all points, usually with a smile on his face. His communication with the players, I am sure, is very much appreciated, even if they don't always agree with his logic.

There's a possibility that all three division titles could be settled by the end of this coming weekend. If Wycombe win at AFC Portchester they will be Premier League champions. If Farnham beat Bournemouth Sports Reserves, they will be champions in the South. In the North it could all be settled on Thursday evening when Penn & Tylers Green face Denham United. Anything less than a Penn win will see United take the title.

Farnborough 0-3 Denham United
Goalless at the break, Denham took control in the second half, even after losing Lauren Cox to the sin-bin. Chelsea-Rose Keary opened the scoring. Back on the pitch, Lauren Cox them doubled the advantage before Daisy Baranowski sealed the points. That makes it 16 from 16 for Denham now. Four more games to compete the perfect league season.

​AFC Portchester 1-1 Reading
In a game that saw plenty of chances at both ends, both goals came within a two minute spell midway through the first half. Georgia Hayes put the visitors ahead after 21 minutes, but a penalty for handball was put away by Becky Bath two minutes later. The result means that Portchester must beat Wycombe at home on Saturday to maintain their slim title hopes.

Badshot Lea 0-5 Winchester City Flyers
Flyers maintained second place and the slimmest of title hopes with a resounding win at The Baggies. The returning Shayne Prasad opened the scoring after 12 minutes. Somewhat inevitably Chelsie Hay added two more goal to her impressive tally. Sian Wylie and a last minute Annie Northwood goal completed the scoring. Check out Emma Pearmine's post-match thoughts.

Woodley United 0-1 Southampton
A 50th minute Julia Pietrzyk goal, on her first start for the Sirens, capped off a POTM performance. Southampton maintain their hold on third place, although some of the teams below them do have games in hand. Woodley stay three points above the drop zone and it's increasingly looking like the game at Badshot Lea on May 10th will be a relegation shootout.

​Larkspur Rovers 2-1 Farnborough
Two goals in six second half minutes sealed the points for Larkspur, keeping them in second spot. Top scorer Savana Fearon got their first after 65 minutes with Calleigh Wright adding a second in the 71st minute.

Slough Town 1-4 Chesham United Development
Amber Saunders  gave Slough an early lead, but Wede Akpata levelled just before half-time. Bo Edwards, five minutes past the hour had Chesham 2-1 in front. However, the game was not made completely safe until Oana Filip scored in the 89th minute and Bo Edwards added a fourth two minutes into added time. 

Tilehurst Panthers 1-7 Penn & Tylers Green
Tara Woodward scored five of Penn's seven goals at the weekend making it 29 for the season. Molly Woods and captain Rachael Harnby added the other two goals. Penn remain a point behind Larkspur with three games in hand on Rovers going into Thursday's massive clash with Denham.

​AFC Varsity 2-2 Wimborne Town
Goals from Lucy Roberts and Sheree Bell-Jack, her 12th of a productive season, gave Wimborne a point in their penultimate game of the season.

Havant & Waterlooville 2-2 AFC Stoneham
A draw in this game was the perfect result for leaders Farnham, who now just need to win next weekend for the title. Emma-Jane May hit her thirteenth of the season, from the spot with Evie Griffiths also scoring foe The Hawks.

Shaftesbury 0-9 Farnham Town
Farnham responded to losing their 100% record with a resounding nine-goal haul at Shaftesbury. Top scorer Iesha Swaby led the way, notching four more goals including a 14-minute first half hattrick. Echo Barrett, Francesca Thornton and Lilly-May Varney were also on the score sheet. Emilie Miller grabbed her first goal for the club, from the spot and then manager Anya Kinnane subbed herself on and added the ninth a minute from time. ​Denham United 1-1 (4-2p) Bournemouth Sports Reserves
Emma Whall put Bournemouth one up after just 8 minutes. However, a swift response from United saw Brogan Moore level the scores. Both teams created some chances in the second period, but were unable to break the deadlock. Denham goalkeeper Zara Butt made two saves from the spot to help United thorough to face Oxford City in the final.

Sholing 2-6 Oxford City
City progressed to the Chairman's Cup Final for the second consecutive season with a comprehensive victory at Sholing, despite goals from Sophie Lee and Siena Millen for the Boatwomen. Emily Harris bagged another two for Oxford, backed up by strikes from Grace Craven, Yasmin Edwards, Willie Walecki and Ellie White.

Whilst neither Varsity or The Dons have had the league season they would have liked, they are both safe from the drop and can focus on this SDFA Cup encounter. Both league encounters have ended in home wins, 2-1 for Varsity and 6-0 for Bursledon.

AFC Portchester v Eastbourne Borough
A small matter of a Combined Counties of a  Quarter-Final to warm Portchy up for the game of the season on Sunday. Eastbourne currently top Division 1 South of the London & South East Regional League and have yet to be beaten in the league. A 5-0 win at Hastings United got them through to this stage.

Penn & Tylers Green v Denham United
Denham make the short trip up to Penn to take on the only tea that can still pip them to the title. A point will do for United but, of course, they'll want to win the game and preserve their 100% record. Penn lost the reverse fixture 3-2 but came from behind twice before eventually going down to a Liana Horwood penalty. No doubt that this is going to be a cracker.

​AFC Portchester v Wycombe Wanderers
A massive game in the title race. A win for Wycombe seals the deal. A win for Portchester would leave it in Portchy's hands, and would also allow some hope for Winchester, depending upon their result at Sholing. Portchester won at Wycombe in mid-March at Adams Park and remain the only team to have beaten Wycombe in the league on their own patch.

Badshot Lea v Oxford City
Bottom side Badshot Lea are rapidly running out of games in which to find the points they need to escape the drop zone. They go into this match three points adrift of Woodley but with a significantly worse goal difference. City reached their second consecutive Chairman's Cup Final on Sunday, and go into this game full of confidence, unbeaten in their last four. They also won the reverse fixture 7-3 back in November.
Westfield Lane, Wrecclesham GU10 4PF

Fleet Town v Beaconsfield Town
It's only been a couple of weeks since the reverse fixture to this encounter. That was an entertaining and ultimately close game, ending in a 4-3 win for The Rams, who led 4-1 at the break and held on after a fine second half effort from Fleet. Although there's nothing hanging on the result of this game, it promises to be far from an end of season dead-rubber encounter.

Reading v Woodley United
A local derby, even though Reading currently play in Slough. The reverse fixture was handed to The Royals as an away win. However, Woodley won't be handing the points over too easily in this one. They need another win, at least, to secure their Premier League status. Reading, with five games left, will still have ambitions of a top three finish.

Sholing v Winchester City Flyers
Flyers need to win this game and hope that Portchester do them a favour by beating Wycombe. That would leave them with an outside chance of overhauling the leaders in their remining two games. The reverse fixture ended 4-0 to Winchester, who were three up by half time. Sholing are still not mathematically safe, but it would take a minor miracle for both Woodley and Badshot Lea to catch them now.

​Abingdon United Development v Kidlington Youth
Kidlington remain two points adrift of Ascot at the bottom, although they do have a game in hand. Abingdon won the reverse fixture 2-1 and still have an outside chance of finishing second. Kidlington are yet to pick up a point on their travels.

Ascot United Reserves v Farnborough
With six games remaining, Farnborough can still make a dent in the top three should they win them all. Ascot, meanwhile, are only two points above the drop zone and will be looking to get a few more points on the board before the relegation six-pointer with Kidlington. Farnborough won the reverse game 2-1 after coming from a goal down and winning it in the 94th minute.

Penn & Tylers Green v Oxford City Development
If Penn win on Thursday, they will still be in with a shout of the title in this game. If they have lost or drawn, then they are just playing for second spot. This is the first meeting with City, who they also play on the first Sunday of May. City, for their part, are not mathematically clear of danger, but have a seven point gap over bottom side Kidlington, albeit having played four more games.

Tilehurst Panthers v Larkspur Rovers
Rovers are hanging on to second spot at the moment, a point ahead of Penn who have three games in hand. Whatever happens in the remaining two games, it's fair to say it's been a good season for Larkspur. Tilehurst are safe from the drop and, with five to play, could yet make an impression on the top half. They'll want to put right the 3-1 defeat suffered at Larkspur.

​AFC Varsity v Guernsey
Guernsey will be looking to avenge the 4-1 defeat inflicted on the by Varsity when they visited the island in March. Neither side has anything more than personal pride to pay for, although both have the opportunity to improve their league position. This will be the Green Lionesses last game of the season. Varsity will have one more to play.
Romsey Town FC, SO51 8GJ

Andover New Street v AFC Stoneham
After ending Farnham's 100% record, New Street are still able to catch the leaders, in theory. However, in reality they'll be more focussed on overhauling Stoneham and Havant to take the runners-up spot. Stoneham are currently third, level on points with The Hawks, who have played a game fewer. The Purps took the reverse fixture 3-0 back in November.

Bournemouth Sports Reserves v Farnham Town
Farnham go into this game knowing that a victory will see them crowned champions. They also have the knowledge that they beat Sports 3-1 at The mem only a couple of weeks ago. However, the following week, Sports beat Stoneham at Chapel Gate and have not lost at home since early February.

Bursledon v Havant & Waterlooville
The Hawks will be hoping that Bournemouth do them a favour on Sunday, allowing them to close the gap on Farnham with a win. They can still overhaul Farnham's points tally, but require Town to lose all of their remaining matches. The reverse fixture with The Dons was a thrilling 4-3 home win for Havant back in October.
Priory Park, SO32 1SQ

Andover New Street ended Farnham Town's 100% record in Town's 13th match, winning 3-1 at The Mem. That leaves Denham United as the sole team with a 100% record. In the Premier League it was a case of advantage Wycombe, as the leaders won whilst their two nearest rivals, AFC Portchester and Winchester City Flyers, both lost. Kidlington were seconds away from a vital three points in the North, but were eventually held to a draw. In the South, despite their defeat, Farnham are still massive favourites for the title, especially after Stoneham were defeated by Bournemouth Sports Reserves.

​AFC Portchester 1-2 Southampton
Portchy opened up well in this game but found themselves two down before the break after Liv Glover and Chloe Ball got on the score sheet. They did finally get a goal back through Becky Bath in the 82nd minute, but The Sirens held firm for a hard-earned three points. Portchester now need to win all of their remaining games and hope that Wycombe drop points in their final league fixture.

Badshot Lea 0-5 Wycombe Wanderers
They weren't to know, but defeat for Portchy and Flyers, combined with their win was going to make it a very good day for The Chairgirls. Jess Watkins put them on their way from the spot before Cat Beaver had them two in front before half-time. Chloe Melton then made it three and Beaver was on the mark again to make it 4-0. Oxford City 1-0 Winchester City Flyers
Emily Harris scored the only goal of this tight contest midway through the second half. The result leaves Winchester still in second spot, but now any kind of result for Wycombe in their final game will leave them uncatchable by Flyers.

Woodley United 2-1 Sholing
A second win of the season for Woodley sees them put clear space between themselves and Badshot Lea in the drop zone. United took the lead through Zara Nurcellari in the 26th minute. However, Danielle O'Leary had the Boatwomen on equal terms at the break. Two minutes into the second half Amelie Mayani put United back in front, securing a vital three points.

​Kidlington Youth 2-2 Larkspur Rovers
The Greens edged a point closer to safety with this draw, leaving them two points adrift of Ascot with a game in hand. Amy Busby and Courtney Sumner scored for Kidlington, and it could have been even better for them had Savana Fearon not scored her second goal of the game two minutes into added time.

​Bournemouth Sports Reserves 3-2 AFC Stoneham
Stoneham missed the chance to go back to second spot after falling to defeat at Chapel Gate. Freya Loren scored the first for Sports after just 8 minutes. Emma Whall added their second ten minutes before the break. Morgan Hill scored their third goal just before the hour.

Bursledon 4-0 Shaftesbury
The Dons went back above Varsity into 9th spot with this win. With five still to play, they could hope for a mid-table finish. They could also have a big say in the title race with games against Havant, Stoneham and two against Farnham, yet to come.

Farnham Town 1-3 Andover New Street
League game number 13 proved to be unlucky for Farnham as they finally lost their 100% record at the hands of Andover New Street, who took the lead just before the half-hour mark when Keira Smith's corner was deflected in for an own goal. Rachael Manley levelled the scores after 35 minutes and it stayed that way until the break. Andover went back in front after 80 minutes through Summer Williams, sewing the game up a minute before time through Keira Smith. Watch the goals from the Farnham X feed.

Wimborne Town 2-1 Guernsey
Guernsey caption Candice Bougourd hammered the Green Lionesses ahead with a superb free-kick. However, Amiya Williams equalised after 41 minutes. Lucy Roberts scored the winner for The Magpies in the 82nd minute.

​Farnborough v Denham United
After Farnham lost their 100% league record, Denham continue to pursue their perfect league season at Farnborough on Thursday evening. Farnborough can mathematically still pip them to the title, but they would need to win every game and hope that United lose their last five. The sides have yet to meet this season.

Portchy's defeat last weekend has left them in the position of having to win all of their remaining games to have any chance of catching Wycombe. They begin the quest with a first league meeting with Reading this season. The teams did meet in the League Cup last month when a Sarah Butterworth goal saw Portchester progress to the final (Final. Flyers won the reverse fixture 4-1 back in September and will need a similar result if they wish to maintain any kind of pressure on Wycombe. However, The Baggies are now fighting for their Premier-League lives, three points adrift at the bottom and running out of games.

Woodley United v Southampton
United's 2-1 defeat of Sholing last Sunday saw them move three points clear of Badshot Lea with a game in hand. With a visit to Wrecclesham still to come, they'll be looking to extend that gap before that 6-pointer. The Sirens put a big dent in Portchester's title aspirations last Sunday, winning 2-1 at the OnSite Group Stadium. They won the reverse fixture 4-2 in January, coming from behind twice to earn the points.

​Larkspur Rovers v Farnborough
Rovers are still hanging on to second spot but with Penn only a point back with three in hand, they need to continue winning if they won't to hold on. Farnborough will also be looking to finish as high as possible. Depending on their result on Thursday evening, they could even still have a mathematical chance of top spot, albeit it very slim. The reverse fixture, just 2 weeks back, ended in a 1-1 draw.

League position and local pride to play for in this one. Three points currently separate 5th placed Chesham from their 7th placed hosts. They drew 1-1 at Chiltern Hills in September. Slough levelled the game with 99th minute Megan Duffy goal.

Tilehurst Panthers v Penn & Tylers Green
If Denham win on Thursday evening, anything less than a victory for Penn in this game would mean that United would be crowned champions. Either way, Penn will be looking to gain as many points as possible. They are looking odds-on to be runners-up for a second consecutive season. They won the reverse fixture 5-3 thanks largely to a Tara Woodward hat-trick.

Although Farnham showed they were beatable last weekend, they are still looking very likely to win the league. Wimborne are one of the chasing pack who could still finish second and are only three points off that position now. Varsity are still second from bottom, but are safe from the drop.

Havant & Waterlooville v AFC Stoneham
Second versus third, with the teams level on points and only a two goal difference giving Havant the edge. They have, however, played one game fewer. Both are six points adrift of Farnham, so only a win will do for either team. The Hawks still have to play Farnham, so they'll want to stay in touch to possibly set up a shootout.  Stoneham won the reverse fixture 4-1 back in November.

Shaftesbury v Farnham Town
Bottom versus top and these two have not yet met this season after their previous fixture was postponed. A win for Farnham would effectively put Stoneham out of the title race, leaving Havant & Waterlooville as the only challengers. To put the scale of Shaftesbury's task in perspective, three Farnham players have scored more goals individually than Shaftesbury have managed in total this season.

Still in pursuit of the perfect league campaign, Denham also have a chance to make a cup final. However, they'll have to get past the challenge of a Bournemouth side who have lost only one of their last six and put Denham's closest league rivals, Havant, out at the last stage.

Sholing v Oxford City
City, last season's beaten finalists, look to give themselves another pop at the cup. First of all they'll need to get past a Sholing side who they have already met twice in the league. Both games ended in home wins, 3-2 to Sholing on the opening day and 3-1 to City in December. Recent form is fairly similar with both sides having won two of their last six. However, Oxford had a good victory over Winchester on Sunday, whereas Sholing lost to Woodley.
