In the first of what is hopefully a series of short blogs introducing the new teams in the Southern Region fold, we take a look at Larkspur Rovers. Many thanks to coach and manager Damon Wright, who kindly sent over some useful information. 'Damo' and his two daughters have been around the local ladies' football scene for some time now, beginning 15 years ago at Denham United who, by coincidence, will be joining Larkspur in Division One North this coming season. Larkspur's rise up the Thames Valley leagues has been rapid in recent seasons. 2021-22 saw them finish in 5th spot in Division 3 East. The following season, moving into Division 3 South, they secured a second place finish and earned promotion into Division 1, bypassing the second division completely. Their first season in Division 1 was a big success, finishing runners-up behind Tilehurst Panthers and winning the League Cup with a 2-0 victory over Wallingford & Crowmarsh at Arbour Park. Last season they reversed the league and cup positions. Oxford City Development beat them in the League Cup Final, but they secured the title by six points, pushing the same team down into second place. However, City will also be joining them in Division One North next season. The team say they are under no illusion that the step up into Tier 6 will be easy. However, they are working hard on their preparations and looking forward to the challenge. You'll be able to catch Larkspur's home games at Lord Halsbury Playing Field, Priors Farm Lane, Northolt, UB5 5FE
