Founded in 1970 by fans, Southampton Women’s FC is Southampton’s oldest and most successful women’s football club and an historic name in the women's game, winning the Women’s FA Cup eight times between 1971 and 1982, including being the inaugural winners in 1971. This is only bettered by Arsenal who have 14. Southampton Women's FC is now a completely renovated club with a flourishing youth development programme. Achieving a league-and-cup double by winning the Hampshire League in 2015–16 and the Southern Region Premier League and cup in 2016–17, earning promotion to Tier 4. They spent seven seasons in the FA Women's National League and came so close to promotion to the third tier. In their first two seasons they came second consecutively, before COVID hit and ruined all momentum. There followed fourth, fifth and tenth place finishes. The club underwent a rebrand in 2022, unveiling a new badge and embracing the ‘Sirens’ nickname to distinguish themselves from Southampton FC Women. The Sirens unfortunately were put in a difficult situation last season, where they did not have enough players to play after a lot of turnover in the squad. Meaning more young players had to step up and unfortunately their seven year stay in the division came to an end as they were relegated after a tough season. However, the ambition is high going into this season as they will have a proper pre-season, unlike last year, and the Sirens will be hoping to bounce straight back up to the fourth tier. The National League loss is the Southern Region gain. Many thanks to Southampton Women's media team for providing such great information.
